New Website for The Climbing Cobbler

The Climbing Cobbler is a specialist cobbler based in Ivybridge, Devon, with a reputation as the South West’s go-to destination for climbing shoe surgery. From precision resoles on technical climbing shoes through to everyday repairs and a legendary service for approach footwear, the business combines genuine craft with a warm, self-aware voice that sets it firmly apart in a niche market.

Behind the business is Richard, who has trained himself to become one of the best climbing shoe repair specialists in the country. That matters more than it might sound. Most climbing shoe repair companies outsource their work outside the UK. Richard does everything himself, in his workshop in Ivybridge. When you send your shoes to The Climbing Cobbler, a skilled pair of hands in Devon is the one working on them.

Richard is also a lot of fun to work with, and that energy comes through in the brand. When The Climbing Cobbler came to b:web, the brief was to build a website that reflected the quality and personality of the business and brought in new customers searching for specialist shoe repair across the region.

Brand work alongside the website

As well as the website, we refined The Climbing Cobbler’s logo and produced a full set of brand files Richard can use for products, signage and print in the future. Getting those assets right at this stage means the brand can grow consistently, whether that’s a label on a repaired shoe, a banner at a climbing wall or any other physical touchpoint the business develops over time.

A niche that deserved something better

The footwear repair sector online is, to put it charitably, functional. Generic layouts, stock photography and nothing much to distinguish one local cobbler from the next. For a business with a proper identity and a devoted customer base, that wasn’t good enough.

The design draws on the textures and tones of the climbing world: earthy, tactile and grounded. The layout is clean and easy to follow for visitors who arrive simply wanting to know whether their shoes can be saved, while still doing justice to the craft behind the work. Each service category has its own identity, from the precise language used for climbing shoe resoles through to the more good-humoured tone reserved for approach Crocs.

Copy that does real work

One of the things that makes The Climbing Cobbler stand out is the brand voice: knowledgeable, witty and passionate about footwear without taking itself too seriously. The website needed to carry that through every page without undermining the credibility that keeps customers trusting their beloved shoes to the team.

Across the site, the copy answers common questions before they’re asked, reassures nervous first-timers and reinforces the expertise behind every repair. Strong calls to action encourage enquiries at each stage without ever feeling pushy.

SEO built for the right audience

The SEO strategy was built around the specific, high-intent searches that bring the right customers through the door. Climbers sourcing a local resole specialist, trail runners looking to extend the life of a trusted pair of shoes, everyday customers with a broken zip or worn sole. By targeting the terms that matter most to The Climbing Cobbler’s audience across the South West and beyond, the site is set up to keep growing its reach steadily.
